Outdoors - one of my favourite places to be

Would you like to know something
about my health story?
There's only one place to start – and that's at the beginning.

I spent decades navigating the corporate world, burning that candle at both ends and slogging away to make a career for myself. Eating was an afterthought; convenience food was my go-to, and I lived on caffeine. Yes, I was the classic tired and wired.

Then, during my travels, I caught a nasty stomach bug. Some months later, I noticed I was getting random gut troubles that worsened over time. I'll be honest – it was embarrassing. I put up with it for too many years until I got fed up and decided I needed answers. I thought the answer for me was Irritable Bowel Syndrome, but in fact, I had advanced bowel cancer (stage 3).

I already worked with a Nutritional Therapist and practised integrative oncology alongside my treatment plan from the hospital. Treatment was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, and I had lots of ups and downs. I wanted to play my part in getting through this ordeal and supporting my own health.

I was determined, once I had finished the initial treatment, that I would undertake extra training and specialise in cancer support. And now, here I am. My goal with Becky Hogan Health is to support my clients before, during and after treatment in a safe and effective way.

Curious about Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional Cooking

I didn't understand it at first, either. I soon realised it wasn't like anything else I had experienced. It wasn't the typical diet programme that I was used to. It's a different way of approaching the health outcomes we desperately want. There are five things I want you to know about Nutritional Therapy.

1. Your goal is key to it all.

I will start by understanding what it is that you really want. The problem that you most want to solve. It could be that you wish to have help with some hormonal symptoms. It can also be about support with fitness, energy, sleep or general health. It's up to you.

2. It's a whole-body approach.

We start with an in-depth health assessment. I will need to hear your story. This lets me build a picture of how the whole body could be responding. If you ask for help with your hormones, I will look for the signs and symptoms across the body that will offer clues about what is happening with your hormones.

3.  I'm searching for the 'why.'

Once I understand the signs and symptoms, I will start working on finding the 'why'. Why is this happening in the way that it is? I'm looking for patterns. The problem with most diets (and there are a lot of problems with them) is that they are generic and fail to address what is going on for you. I make sure I have sound theories about what might be happening before making any recommendations.

4. A personalised approach.

You are unique. Therefore, I combine your goal, the information from your health assessment and the latest research and evidence (relevant to you) to form a plan that is as unique as you are. It will be a plan that goes at your pace and suits your lifestyle.

5. It's more than nutrition.

As you would expect, there's a solid nutritional focus. It's also important to know that I also factor in lifestyle. It could be sleep quality, breathing, movement or life stressors - to name but a few.

You can expect a unique combination of health education, advice and coaching. The exact combination will depend on what you most need.

The first call is free for a reason

The first step is free, as I know it can be daunting to invest in your health when you come across something new. I was there myself. We start with a 30-minute call to get to know one another and make sure we work well together. This gives you the opportunity to ask me questions and know this is the right way forward. No matter what, you will get some early insight from me.
